The National Vaccine Injury Program (VICP) is a federal government program that covers the cost of medical care and provides additional compensation to individuals who have experienced vaccine- related injuries and illnesses. A person who has a vaccine related injury does not sue the vaccine manufacturer or the person who administered the vaccine, rather they file a claim through the VICP. The funds in the VICP come from a seventy-five cent excise tax that is placed on the vaccine manufacturers for every vaccine dose they manufacture.
